Until ten years ago, only two harvests in the history of La Rioja Alta, had had sufficient quality so that the centenary winery of Haro decided to grant to its Vineyard Ardanza Reserve the category of Special. Everything changed with the historic 2001 harvest, one of the best that has been produced in Spain in the last two decades.
The first Ardanza Reserva Especial Vineyard of the 21st century is a pure-strain Rioja classic, a complex and elegant wine with an aging equivalent to that of a large reserve. Like its predecessors, this Rioja jewel has once again occupied the top of the podium, a position carved out of work, talent and respect for tradition. Its extraordinary value for money only confirms the honesty that has always characterized La Rioja Alta. It is a reserve wine of cherry red color, clean and bright. High middle layer, with an incipient iodized hue at the edge of the glass. Intense, spicy and balsamic aromas of coconut, vanilla, cinnamon and menthol chocolate, which wrap delicate notes of dried undergrowth fruits. In the mouth it is structured, balanced, with silky tannins and envelopes. The end is a kind and sophisticated aftertaste, which fills the mouth with imperishable sensations and that the passage of time will help to enhance and round up.
